19 Step-by-Step Daily Lessons guide you and your students through this novel study. Assignments and Activities are planned for each day of the novel unit.

Vocabulary Worksheets that focus on meaning in context and dictionary definitions go with each reading assignment.

Comprehension Questions and Quizzes follow the reading assignments, so you know if your students are keeping up with their reading and if they are understanding what they are reading.

Writing Assignments are sprinkled throughout this novel study for The Call of the Wild, too! Detailed writing assignment sheets guide students' writing.

  • The first assignment is to inform: students write an essay in conjunction with the Nonfiction Assignment.
  • The second assignment gives students the opportunity to express their opinions: students write an essay about the relationship(s) between people and animals on our planet.
  • The third assignment is to persuade and to give students a chance to be creative: students create a mail-out piece for the National Wildlife Foundation (or any wilderness/conservation association) to persuade people to make a contribution.

Two lessons are also devoted to Leveled Critical Thinking Questions:

  • Interpretive Questions require students to simply interpret facts that are given.
  • Critical Questions require students to think deeply to develop answers that go beyond what is in the text.
  • Personal Response Questions have no right or wrong answer; students formulate and give their own opinions.

A Nonfiction Reading Assignment is incorporated into this novel study unit for The Call of the Wild. Students are required to read at least one nonfiction article and view at least one nonfiction video related to the story and complete a short report form analyzing their sources.

    Disappointed

Posted by Chelsea Edington on Feb 7th 2024

I usually love the LitPlan Novel Studies, but this one is very disappointing. There are questions in the wrong chapters and wrong answers. Luckily, the book isn't difficult so it's easy for me to correct, but after paying almost $17 for something, you shouldn't have to. Hi Chelsea, We're in the process of reviewing and updating all of the LitPlans. Thank you for bringing these issues to my attention. It never ceases to amaze me that no one takes the time to alert me to problems, so I thank you very much for letting me know Call of the Wild has issues. I'll look into it right away. Mary
