This pre-reading activity page for Black Beauty has two parts:
- In Part 1, students are given a list of sentences about horses, and students mark which sentences are true.
- In Part 2, students are given a list of 5 sentence starters about horses/animals. Students choose a sentence starter to complete and then give at least 3 supporting statements.
Uses
- As a quick, easy, and fun introduction to the book Black Beauty
- You can expand upon Part 1 by having students list other facts they know about horses.
- You can expand Part 2 by having student share their responses or have them draw a picture related to their responses. If you have access to paper with a blank top and lined bottom, students write their responses below and draw the picture above, then you could post these on a bulletin board or wall space.
