A Few Additional Notes
There are three writing assignments in this unit. In the first writing assignment, students write a descriptive narrative. In the second writing assignment, students write a biographical summary of the life of Littmus W. Block. In Writing Assignment 3, students explain the different techniques Opal uses to get what she wants.
In this expanded Second Edition, many sections of the book have an expanded discussion guide in the daily lessons, to point out and discuss figurative language, allusions, idioms, background knowledge, or other elements within the chapter that are not necessarily essential elements of the story but will further students' education or skills. Answer keys are included. This edition also has many additional activities during the daily lessons to point out and explore important elements of the story.
These materials are geared for whole class use but are very easily adapted for independent study work, lit circles, or book groups, home school use, or tutoring. If you have never taught this book before, this manual will give you a great foundation of materials on a variety of levels. If you have taught this book before, you might like to know that many veteran teachers have told us they have found our LitPlan Teacher Pack manuals to be much more thorough and more helpful than other materials they have used.
